George L. Throop Company
Specializing in Concrete and Grout Production Anywhere in the U.S.
The Throop Company specializes in concrete and grout production anywhere in the United States. We produce concrete on mountain tops, islands and in the desert. We have worked on almost every freeway or highway in southern California from San Diego, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Santa Monica (just to name a few). We have produced Rapid Set concrete, Type II cement and highly specialized grouts in places like Los Angeles, Pasadena, Las Vegas, Lost Hills, King City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, in Nevada, Georgia, Oklahoma, Illinois, New York, the state of Washington, Hawaii and many other cities and states. We have even pumped concrete under water.
We have not seen a concrete mix that we can’t produce. In fact, we enjoy doing mix designs the regular ready–mix companies are not set up to produce.
Our fastest strength gain has been 4,400 psi in 1 hour at the San Diego airport. We have done thousands of yards of concrete on islands where we have coordinated loading barges with 3,300 tons of rock and sand and then had to unload it as quickly as possible because of the tide. We have found that if you lack being organized, projects get very expensive. We have worked under constraints such as $1,000 per minute penalty if we are late opening a freeway after working all night. That is why we bring an extra batch unit on-site just in case of unforeseen mechanical issues. Once again, it can get expensive if you are not ready.
We have produced concrete that water can go through called pervious concrete. We have also produced high heat concrete that withstands 2,300 degrees and we have also hit a window of concrete strength within a certain period of time.
We work under general contractors who perform all other steps after receiving the freshly produced concrete on-site. We specialize in concrete for airports, freeways, cities, refineries, luxury homes, high density, marine construction, mountain tops, and other remote locations.

History of the
George L. Throop Company
Over 100 Years of Service
1921
George L. Throop Sr. had been working with a partner in North Hollywood, CA, and decided to start his own business in Pasadena, CA, selling coal and feed.. As the area grew, he started caring building materials. When all of the building stopped during WWII he kept the business alive by helping with the war effort.
1948
After returning from WWII, George Throop Jr came to work for the Throop Company full-time. As customers would come in and ask for tools or products, they asked the employees to write down what was requested. George Jr. helped to steadily grow the business through periods of inflation, recession and having to move the business location twice.
1980
After Jeff received an honorary discharge from the Army in the 1970’s and George ended his baseball career in 1979, they both became full-time employees at the Throop Company. The real growth of the company started when they branched into producing concrete with volumetric mobile concrete mixers.
